Before you get started, we like to track how our resources are being used. Please answer the questions below.

This training is intended to be a resource for you to find specific additional data, beyond what is already provided at this website. Whether you are writing a grant proposal, developing a an assessment for needed services, or simply want to learn more about the health and well-being of your community, this training will take you to the next level in your data-finding skills.

If you have already taken the time to explore the SanJuanCountyData.org website, you've discovered that there is a wealth of data provided on this site. But, no single website is going to provide all of the data for every specialty area.

For example, you may be writing a proposal specifically for child & family services. While this website provides YRRS data for middle and high school, along with child and maternal health indicators, there is a ton more data available from other sources -- and that is true for any specialty area. And while many of the indicators on this site are aggregated by subpopulation, such as age, race/ethnicity and gender, you may need to aggregate data further, to better understand the issues related to your service subpopulation.

Purpose

This is the primary rationale and purpose for this training: to provide you with the skills you need for linking to and searching some of the top data websites for national, state and county-level data.

Focus

Obviously, this training does not cover all data websites; rather, the focus is on sources that provide county-level data, particularly for New Mexico.

Another focus of the training is health data, and within that general category, many of the examples provided in tutorials are related to substance use and consequences, which is a main focus of San Juan County Partnership prevention efforts and of the PFS19 SAMHSA funding for this project.

However, whatever your particular focus is, the skills you learn will apply to searching for and opening doors to the data you need.
